Five students from the Department of Communication are gaining the experience of a lifetime as a result of a longterm partnership between Illinois State University and Dong-Ah (East Asia) College of Broadcasting and Communication in South Korea. Dong-Ah and ISU are in their sixth year of the international exchange program, which sends Korean students to Illinois State, and American students to study in Korea. Dr. Jong Kang, Professor in ISU's Department of Communication, is the Director and founder of the program, which provides ISU students the opportunity to travel and study in Korea for less than the cost of studying at Illinois State. Moreover,Dong-Ah provides cultural education trips for the students at no cost and has even built an international student lounge complete with computers and televisions.

Annalesa Feiden, Jennifer Mayes, Mickey Ramirez, Daya Shabnam, and Hans Jin Song, who are Communication majors at ISU, recently completed the first of two 40 hour internships in Seoul, South Korea. As part of the program, they delivered presentations to Samsung Global Marketing Institute executives on B2b (business to business) marketing, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Dr. Dean Kazoleas, Associate Professor of Communication at ISU, and Professor Mi Seung Lee from Dong-Ah attended the presentations and assisted in answering questions. The students are now taking part in a second 40 hour internship at Amore Pacific, a cosmetic firm that markets products throughout Asia.

Dong-Ah College was established in 1997 and is a highly advanced technical facility with the latest digital audio and video equipment used in the broadcasting industry. Dong-Ah also houses recording arts, graphic design, theatre, and film making educational units. Recently, an integrated marketing communication unit was added, which provides education in advertising, marketing, and public relations. A number of Korea’s top acting and singing stars are alumni of Dong-Ah, which also has close ties with most large Korean business organizations.
