Welcome Back from Dean Olson
Dr. Gary A. Olson
Dr. Gary A. Olson

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you back following what I hope was an enjoyable holiday break. The fall semester was exceedingly productive in that the College launched a number of faculty and staff support initiatives, and the spring semester promises to be just as exciting. The College Office was very busy over the break as we moved forward on several new initiatives. As you will see from this issue of CAS News, the College appointed Dr. Janie Leatherman (Professor of Political Science) Director of the newly created Office of International Affairs. The College also finalized the reorganization of its seven independent computing units into one centralized unit—CAS-IT. Also, the College hosted the inaugural meeting of its Community Advisory Board, consisting of 25 leaders in the Bloomington-Normal community, in an effort to identify new and strengthen existing mutually beneficial partnerships. Finally, the College appointed Dr. Epa Rosa (Associate Professor of Physics) as its first Administrative Fellow. Next week’s issue of CASNews will contain a full story on Dr. Rosa’s appointment.

Faculty and staff in the departments of History, Politics and Government, and Sociology-Anthropology were also very busy over the break moving in and out of Schroeder Hall. I would like to thank all of you for your extreme patience and hard work to make this move possible.

My first semester at Illinois State was very rewarding. I continue to be impressed by the talented group of faculty and staff who comprise the College of Arts and Sciences. Despite the challenging economic climate, I feel more confident than ever that we will succeed in raising the profile of this College to unprecedented heights. I wish you all a productive spring semester.
