Farr has been an advocate for adult learners at Western Illinois University, UNC-Pembroke, and Illinois State University. She has spearheaded many initiatives that enrich the lives of nontraditional students and help them achieve their educational and personal goals. Currently, she serves as chair of the Women's Mentoring Network, and as a member of the Adult Learner Services Task Force, the Off Campus Student Task Force, the Advisor Development Committee, and the Assessment and Curriculum Committee for the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She has been an active member of NACADA for over 10 years.

NACADA is committed to celebrating the educational role of academic advisors to enhance student learning and development in a diverse world; affirming the role of academic advising in student success and persistence; anticipating the academic advising needs of twenty-first century students, advisors, and institutions; advancing the body of knowledge on academic advising; fostering the talents and contributions of all members; and promoting the involvement of a diverse population. Established in 1977, NACADA now has over 7,000 members representing all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Canada and several other countries. Members represent higher education institutions across the spectrum of Carnegie classifications and include professional advisors/counselors, faculty, administrators, and students whose responsibilities include academic advising.
