On Tuesday, April 12, Diane Glenn, a member of ISU's Board of Trustees, visited the College of Arts and Sciences as a part of the Trustee-in-Residence Program. Under this program, Trustees spend a half-day visiting one College on campus each semester to educate themselves on various programs within the College. Trustees rotate their visits so that they visit each College every few years. For this year’s visit, Glenn dined in McAlister's Restaurant with members of the College's Faculty Retention/Implementation Committee; visited the Neuroscience Research Laboratories; engaged in a spontaneous, live interview about her famous uncle on WGLT Radio Station; and enjoyed a viewing of the stars at the Planetarium. "I think Trustee Glenn found her visit to be both informative and entertaining," said Dean Olson. "At lunch, she got to hear about how a group of faculty members on the Retention/Implementation Committee have taken on the issue of improving campus climate for all faculty members. That was followed by a light-hearted visit to WGLT where she got to share her childhood memories of her famous uncle, Johnny Hartman. That was fun for us all."

Glenn's first stop was Felmley Hall to visit the Neuroscience Research Group. Dr. Valeri Farmer-Dougan (Associate Professor of Psychology), Dr. Paul Garris (Associate Professor of Biological Sciences), and Dr. Byron Heidenreich (Assistant Professor of Psychology) each provided a tour of their labs where they conduct research on the role of dopamine on behavior and on the preclinical phase of Parkinson's disease, during which the brain begins to lose dopamine neurons but before the loss results in the cardinal symptoms of tremor, rigidity, and slowed movement.

From there, Glenn visited the College's public radio station, WGLT, where she had a special request—that the station play a song from her late uncle, Johnny Hartman (1923-1983), a Chicago-born vocalist who sang with Earl Hines, Dizzy Gillespie, and John Coltrane, among others. The WGLT staff was so excited to learn of Glenn's connection to the famous jazz musician that they talked her into doing a live interview. During the interview, Glenn described Hartman as her second father after her father passed and discussed Hartman's unknown talent—gourmet cooking.

Glenn's final destination was the Planetarium, where Tom Willmitch (Planetarium Director) and Epa Rosa (Associate Professor of Physics) discussed the technology in the Planetarium and provided Glenn with a short show.

Trustee Glenn is Vice President at First Bank of Oak Park, Oak Park, Illinois. In addition to service as a Trustee at ISU, she serves on the Boards of Access Community Health Network—one of the largest federally qualified health centers organization in the country—and Blue Gargoyle, a youth service agency. She attended ISU and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Roosevelt University.
