The School of Social Work has successfully completed its search for a new director. Starting July 2005, Wanda Denise Bracy will take over as Director of the School of Social Work. Bracy comes to ISU from Governors State and is excited about the move. “I am delighted to be chosen as the Director of the School of Social Work at Illinois State University,” Bracy said. “I have found the faculty to be very cohesive and very productive. The staff persons possess an array of skills and are very hard working. Together we will make the Illinois State University’s School of Social Work a flagship in the social work education and practice community. I am truly excited about leading the School in this endeavor."

Bracy has a long history of leadership. At Eastern Michigan University, she was designated Department Head of a combined program in Social Work (1998-2000). At Northeastern University, Bracy served as Coordinator of General Education (1985-1988), Chair of the Department of Social Work (1988-1992), and Program Director of the Social Work Program (1996-1998). Bracy also has been a leader in her field. For the past fifteen years, she has worked with the Accreditation of Social Work Education Programs as site visitor, chair of the site team, and consultant for accreditation applicants, and currently is a member of the Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Council of Social Work Education since 1991, and chaired the Diversity Initiative Committee (1993-1994) and the Commission in Conferences and Faculty Development (1995-2001).

"I am pleased to add Dr. Bracy to the College's leadership team," said Dean Olson. "Dr. Bracy is a nationally-known leader in Social Work, and the College is honored to welcome her to ISU."

Bracy earned her Doctorate of Education in 1998 from Northern Illinois University, where she was a member of the Department of Social Work for over 20 years. In 1985, she earned her Master of Social Work from the University of IllinoisChicago. She also holds a Master of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Philosophy in Education, both from Roosevelt University in Chicago (1975).
