Students executed projects for Feed the Children, CARE, the Salavation Army, Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, and the Red Cross. Through a balloon sale and launch, students raised $3,675 for Feed the Children, which helped purchase a truckload of food and basic necessities for 400 families in Bloomington-Normal. For CARE, students raised $285 through a 3-on-3 basketball tournament; through a bowling night students raised $1,321 for the Salvation Army and the United Way for such causes as Tsunami relief efforts and childcare assistance programs for needy families; students raised $388 through a car wash for Habitat for Humanity; and through a pizza sale in Fell and Stevenson Halls students raised $1,001 for the Red Cross to be used for the Military Troop Support Services Program.
“This course project illustrates just one more way that education at ISU aims to prepare students to become civically engaged citizens,” said Dean Olson. “I commend Hallsten and her students for their innovation and dedication.”
