A software gift valued at almost $275,000 will have a significant impact on teaching, learning, and research and make students better prepared for the job market, according to Department of Geography-Geology Chairperson David Malone.  Seismic Micro-Technology Inc. donated the software package that allows users to explore below ground from a computer.  The information can be used to make judgments about aquifers and groundwater resource management.  The value of this software is signficant, both in monetary terms and in terms of what it will allow faculty and students to do.  "Cultivating and maintaining partnerships with respected companies like Seismic Micro-Technology helps Illinois State's College of Arts and Sciences recruit motivated and academically talented students to our University," said Dean Gary Olson.

Schroeder Hall renovations continue to proceed ahead of schedule, which means many faculty will be moving into their new offices in the east wing of Schroeder in December 2004—six months ahead of schedule.  Faculty and staff from the departments of History, Politics and Government, and Sociology-Anthropology, as well as the Schroeder Hall Academic Computing Unit, have been in temporary quarters in Milner Library during the renovation process.  Classes are scheduled to be held in the newly renovated spaces in the Spring of 2005.
