Some of the hardest working professionals in the College—the civil service and administrative professional (A/P) staff—will now be formally recognized by the College for their efforts in helping the College run smoothly. The Council of Chairs has approved the guidelines to institute the CAS Outstanding Staff Awards. The awards are designed to recognize a civil service and an A/P staff member for significant contributions to the College. Two $1,500 awards will be presented at the annual college awards ceremony in February. According to Sandi Krumtinger, business/administrative associate to the Dean, "The staff in the College play an important role and they often do not get the recognition they deserve for enhancing departments' abilities to achieve the their missions. The CAS Outstanding Staff Awards are a good way to recognize that contribution." Krumtinger played a central role in drafting the guidelines for the awards.

Any civil service or A/P employee who has been continuously employed by a department or unit within the College for a minimum of one year by the nomination deadline of December 10, 2004, is eligible for the award. Nominations may be made by any employee of the College and will be evaluated on the following criteria: work performance; contributions to the unit, College, or University that are above and beyond normal duties; contributions outside the unit; and innovative ideas and/or exceptional problem solving skills. The A/P award selection committee will be composed of three A/P employees, elected from each collegiate division, and will be chaired by Jonathan Rosenthal, Associate Dean for Student and Curricular Affairs. The civil service award selection committee will be composed of three civil service employees, elected from each collegiate division, and will be chaired by Krumtinger.

"These awards are meant to demonstrate that the College truly values our staff professionals as colleagues who work side by side with the rest of us to serve our students and further our mission," said Dean Olson.
