As part of an investigation into the possibility of reorganizing its computer support personnel in order to create a more efficient and responsive college-wide technology support unit, the College brought in a specialist in technology and academic computing last week. The consultant, Jeff Reisberg, was charged with examining how technology is delivered in the College and to suggest how best to support the College’s complex technology needs.

The consultant spent two days on campus holding meetings with each of the technology support professionals employed by the College, as well as with the department chairs, Dean Olson, and Associate Dean Sam Catanzaro. “The technology personnel in the College have been holding extremely fruitful discussions over the last few months and have produced a series of thoughtful and innovative models for a strong college-wide technology support group,” said Dean Olson. “Mr. Reisberg has added some very useful perspectives as an outsider and someone who has been in charge of technology at two universities over the last quarter century.”

“One of the most valuable skills Reisberg brings to us is his perspective of having enacted changes at large universities and his experience with having overseen a huge technology reorganization in an environment of budgetary constraint,” said Sarah Walczynski, Manager of the Laboratory for Integrated Learning and Technology. “His track record seems to show success in every venture.”

Dean Olson will continue consulting with various groups in the College about technology issues and hopes to arrive at a proposal for a workable model before semester’s end. “Jeff’s visit is an important part of the conversations that we’ve been having about the future of technology support and planning in the College, and we’re fortunate to have had him participate in them.  I know that I’ve found his contributions very valuable,” commented Associate Dean Sam Catanzaro.
