Dean Announces Fundraising Results
CAS Fundraising Efforts
CAS Fundraising Efforts
At the College of Arts and Sciences Fall Address, Dean Olson reported on the success of the College’s fundraising efforts over the past year. Drastic reductions in state funding of public universities over the past few years has made it necessary for the College to supplement funding through increased fundraising efforts. Dean Olson declared the past year’s fundraising efforts a success. “Cash gifts to the College totaled $1,340,439—an increase over last year’s gift totals and almost double what we received just three years ago,” said Dean Olson. “Financial commitments to the College totaled close to $2 million. These fundraising totals are even more impressive considering the fact that for half the fiscal year our fundraising process has been in post-campaign mode.”

The College also met its goal to exceed its annual telefund totals from last year. Annual fund donations increased by 8% this past year making CAS the college on campus with the largest percentage increase in Annual Fund gifts and pledges. “I am happy to report that after multiple personal pep-rally visits to the calling center by department chairs and myself, along with a few deliveries of pizzas and cookies for the student callers, we have met our goal to be the College with the largest increase in telefund donations,” announced Dean Olson. The College’s telefund pledges totaled $214,000 for the past fiscal year.

Last year the College created “excellence funds” in the College and in each department in order to attract donors to direct gifts where those gifts can be of greatest use in supporting teaching and research efforts. With state funding of public universities declining state and nationwide, ISU currently receives only 28% of its overall budget from the state.  “We simply must discover ways to reduce our reliance on state funding,” said Dean Olson. “We are planning additional and increased coordination of development efforts between the College and each department this year. I would like to thank Dorothy Witte, the College’s Director of Development, for her efforts over the last year.”
