Student Television and Radio Stations Honored
TV-10
WZND and TV-10—Illinois State University’s student-run radio station and student television station—received three prestigious Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcaster’s Association during the IBA-University Conference on Friday, September 30, at the Bone Student Center. More than 250 radio and television students from around the state attended. "Our student television and radio stations are a continual source of pride for the College," said Dean Olson. "The fact that they were awarded three Silver Dome Awards–the top award given by the IBA–is testament to the quality of their programming."

WZND took home two Silver Dome Awards and three honorable mentions. It took first place for the Best Radio DJ Aircheck by Brian Zisook, and also for Best Radio Spot by Mark Augustine for his commercial for Victor’s Sewing and Alterations. Honorable mentions went to Zach Nechvetal in the Best Radio DJ Aircheck category; Zachary Sargent and Jake Flannigan in the Best Radio Live Game Sports catetory; and Clare Durepos in the Sation/Program Website category.

TV-10 took home one Silver Dome Award and two honorable mentions. It took first place for the TV Spot category for a public service announcement promoting Red Cross blood drives. The PSA was produced by three students: Noah Brooks, Mailynn McKinney, and Jason Parkinson. Honorable mentions went to Christine Van Fleet, and the TV-10 News at Noon staff.

TV-10 has been a tradition on the ISU campus since 1974. It is a student-centered program that allows students to produce every aspect of a live daily newscast, which can be viewed by a potential audience of 80,000 on local cable. TV-10 is the only television newscast produced entirely in the Bloomington-Normal market. TV-10's leadership team consists of Laura Trendle Polus, News Director; Rick Ricioppo, Production Director; and Rick Kempf and Rob Whalen, Broadcast Engineers.

WZND has been on the Illinois State campus since 1981, though radio at ISU started in 1935. WZND runs a dual format of rock alternative and urban jamz and it a proud winner of many state and national awards. Students from the station have also been the winners of many media scholarships including awards from the Broadcast Education Association and the John Bayliss Broadcast Association. Twenty-five student directors, under the supervision of faculty advisor Deb Lesser, operate WZND.
