College Hosts Civil Service
Civil Service Forum
On Thursday, October 20, the College sponsored its semi-annual Civil Service Forum—a luncheon gathering of all of the College’s civil service employees followed by a question and answer session with Dean Olson. Dean Olson gave a brief update on the financial status of the College, stating that things were looking better and that the College may be able to fill all 51 of its vacant faculty lines over the next three years. He also noted that the College is currently gearing up for a dramatic expansion of summer school, and he asked staff to help in advertising the change and in getting the word out to students. Finally, Dean Olson reported that it looks as though the move to get civil service representation on College-level committees will pass through the Academic Senate. He said he hoped this would trickle down to departmental-level committees.
Several questions were raised about the upcoming renovations to Stevenson Hall and the logistics of the move. Dean Olson said the College would do everything it could to make the move as easy as possible for faculty and staff. “One of the best parts of my job is getting to interact with the various constituencies in the College in more informal settings such as this luncheon,” said Dean Olson. “It is my hope that all employees of the College feel that they work in an environment of openness and inclusiveness, and that they feel free to share their ideas and opinions with the College staff.”
