| College Council Chair Steve Hunt | At its Friday, October 28 meeting, the College Council voted to expand its membership by adding three representatives: one for administrative/professionals, one for civil service staff, and one for nontenture-track faculty. “I am pleased to announce that we voted to expand Council representation,” said Steve Hunt, College Council Chair. “Adding these representatives will greatly enhance the Council’s perspective and scope.” These changes to the College by-laws will come into effect once they are ratified by the Academic Senate. “This measure is one of great importance,” said Dean Olson, “in that it furthers the College’s goal of true shared governance—governance that is inclusive of all the College’s constituencies—and I am hopeful that departmental-level governance bodies will follow the lead of the College Council.”

| SCC | Faculty, graduate students, and staff have additional support for their research projects on campus: Illinois State University’s Statistical Consulting Center (SCC)—a service unit that assists researchers with all phases of projects including proposal preparation, research design, data input, data analysis, and interpretation. The SCC was formed in 2003 as the result of a grass roots effort by University faculty with the goal of working together in an interdisciplinary fashion in order to offer greater statistical support to the University research culture by providing a forum in which to share statistical expertise, software, and reference materials.

| AP Forum | The College hosted informative forums last week for administrative-professionals (APs) and non-tenure-track faculty (NTTs). The forums were initiated last year by Dean Olson as a means of promoting openness, transparency, and inclusiveness throughout the College. At both forums, Dean Olson briefed the groups on the current fiscal situation and on the College’s preparation for expanded summer in 2006. The briefing was followed by a question and answer session. At the AP forum, Sarah Walczynski, Manager of the Laboratory for Integrated Learning and Technology, updated everyone on the new computer help ticket system. It was noted that CAS-IT has successfully managed over 1,400 tickets since the system was launched in September. Claire Lamonica, Coordinator of Clinical Experiences in English Education, asked if the College might consider creating a teaching award for administrative professionals. Dean Olson said he would look into that possibility.

| ISU Debate Team | The ISU debate team recently traveled to Kansas City nbsp;and competed in a tournament where the team received the best “newcomer” award—a prestigious award given to the best up-and-coming program in the Midwest. This is a good sign for a team that was re-established only one year ago. "Rebuilding a debate team is challenging work, especially in an age of fiscal belt-tightening," said Dr. Joseph Zompetti, Assistant Professor of Communication and Director of Forensics. "So, to be recognized and appreciated by our peers in this way is not only affirmation of what we're doing, but also encouraging as we continue to make debate a viable and long-term program at Illinois State University."
