GLT Brings in Grammy Nominated Artist
Tierney
Tierney Sutton
On February 4, WGLT hosts it fourth annual Jazz Masters Concert headlined by Tierney Sutton, who could walk away with the 2006 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album only four days after her vist to Normal. Opening for Tierney Sutton is lyrical guitarist Mark Elf who has been playing jazz for over three decades with nearly a dozen critically acclaimed CDs. Elf has played or recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis, Charles Earland, Jimmy McGriff, and Lou Donaldson. A portion of the proceeds from the GLT Jazz Masters will be donated to the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund. At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, the Tierney Sutton band will offer a masterclass discussing and demonstrating the group process of developing arrangements and performing. This event takes place in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall and is free and open to the public.

Tickets for the concert are $17 and can only be purchased at www.wglt.org or by calling the GLT Studios at 309-438-8910.  Last year’s concert was a sell-out, so early ticket purchase is encouraged. Seating is general admission. The GLT Jazz Masters concert starts at 8:00 p.m., with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall on Illinois State University’s campus.

Through the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund, organized by Jeff and Karen Beninato who recently relocated from New Orleans to Normal, GLT is going to adopt a jazz artist, a blues artist, and a school in New Orleans for whom GLT will be collecting monetary donations to purchase new professional instruments for the artists. GLT will also collect working instruments and equipment to send to students and other artists in need. Funds and instruments will be collected at every GLT event this year. For more information on the non-profit New Orleans Musicians Relief Fun, visit www.nomrf.org.
