The Grabill-Homan Peace Prize was awarded to Jake Beier, a senior political science major and peace studies minor, who has demonstrated involvement with campus and community peacemaking activities. Emeritus professors of History Joseph L. Grabill and Gerlof D. Homan had overlapping careers at Illinois State. In the late-1970s, in the midst of the Cold War, they both began to focus their research and efforts on peace studies. The interdisciplinary Peace Studies program at Illinois State arose out of the inner transformation among these two professors and like-minded colleagues.

relations major. This scholarship was established by Mark Bruker (’85, MS ’87), Jeff Charnogorsky (’85), Bob Freitag (’84), and Tom Pfeiff (’83). The friendship these four built as students at Illinois State has continued long past graduation. Each credits Illinois State with providing a basis for the success he has enjoyed. Through this scholarship, the four seek to give back to the University that has given them so much. This scholarship allows these men the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a current Illinois State student by providing financial support to students who might otherwise be unable to obtain an education at Illinois State.
