The College of Arts and Sciences was well-represented in this year’s Graduate Research Symposium, showcasing student research, scholarship, and creative achievement. Over 80 percent of the nearly 200 participants in the Symposium were from College of Arts and Sciences programs. The Symposium, which was held on March 24, allowed graduate students to present their research to a large audience in a professional setting through poster displays, multimedia displays, table displays, and oral presentation sessions by students. "The Graduate Research Symposium is a perennial highlight of the academic year, because it showcases the great quality and diversity of the work students are doing under the direction of their faculty advisors and mentors,” said Associate Dean Sam Catanzaro. “It was great to see so many different students and faculty from the College represented."

Some of the topics graduate students from the College researched included an analysis of the situational and dispositional predictors of compassionate breakups, an analysis of the effectiveness of one Healthy Start program for Hispanic mothers, a chemical study of tridentate ligands for the treatment of non insulin dependent diabetes, an exploration of the cognitive processes behind the formation and production of false memories, and an analysis of the metrosexual male in contemporary American society.

The Symposium, sponsored by the Graduate School, the Graduate Student Association, Research and Sponsored Programs, Honors Program, and Milner Library, started 16 years ago to promote graduate student research. The Undergraduate Research Symposium will take place in various locations in the Bone Student Center on April 21.
