Happy Birthday WZND!
WZND, Illinois State’s student radio station, celebrated its 25th birthday with a bang last Wednesday, March 29. The Z106 Gorilla and Street team were on Illinois State’s quad handing out birthday cake and presents, and over the weekend, more than 100 WZND alums came back to campus to share in the celebration. On Friday night, WZND broadcasted a special alumni version of its popular ‘80s Rewind Show. The celebration culminated on Saturday evening with a dinner and dance.

WZND began in 1981 in Cook Hall. Over the past 25 years, the student radio station has won over 100 national and regional awards and has donated over $25,000 to charity. WZND is on-air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and broadcasts many specialty programs, news and sports six times a day, and the ISU’s home football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, and student government debates. WZND is directed by Deb Lesser, who recently celebrated her own anniversary of 20 years on the communication faculty.
