Dr. Curtis White | President Al Bowman has appointed Curtis White, Department of English, as Distinguished Professor effective August 16, 2007. The Distinguished Professor designation allows the University to honor faculty members of distinction and to demonstrate to the broader community that excellence is the foundation of the University. In choosing White, the review panel cited his prominence as a public intellectual, service to Illinois State University and to its model of shared governance, service to the field of contemporary fiction, and his commitment to teaching. “I congratulate Curtis White on this honor,” said Dean Olson. “Illinois State is indeed fortunate to have a gifted writer and teacher such as Dr. White on its faculty.” Distinguished Professors are invited to deliver one public lecture or presentation on a topic of their choosing; they receive a $1,000 budget per annum in support of activities as a Distinguished Professor and continue to hold the title throughout their service to Illinois State.
