|
After an extensive national search, the College has appointed Professor Michael Leippe as the new chair of the Department of Psychology. Leippe, who assumes the post on July 1, is currently a professor of psychology at John Jay College of the City University of New York. Throughout Leippe’s career, his research has focused on social influence and attitude change, as well as on psychology and law. He has studied social influence in diverse realms, including social-political issues, self-concept, and prejudice. In the psycho-legal domain, Leippe has explored how the accuracy and confidence of eyewitness testimony are influenced by social factors, and, in turn, how eyewitness testimony influences jurors and police investigators. “I greatly look forward to working with the faculty and staff of the Department of Psychology,” said Leippe. “It is such an impressive group, filled with dynamic teachers and talented researchers doing truly important work.”

The group visited the Institute for Geospatial Analysis and Mapping (GEOMAP) housed in the Department of Geography-Geology. The morning concluded with station director Bruce Bergethon escorting the members through ISU’s award-winning public radio station, WGLT, followed by lunch with Vice-President for Advancement Dianne Ashby and members of the college staff. “I appreciate the time the members of the Foundation Board spent with our students, faculty, and staff,” said Dean Olson.
