Dean Olson, President Bowman, and Adlai E. Stevenson III
Adlai E. Stevenson III visited the ISU campus on September 29 to celebrate the opening of a new exhibit featuring the Stevenson Collection at Milner Library. The Collection includes approximately 300 artifacts, including political memorabilia such as campaign buttons, handwritten drafts of Adlai E. Stevenson II’s famed acceptance speech for the 1952 Democratic presidential nomination, and a hat that belonged to Adlai E. Stevenson, who served as Vice President of the United States under Grover Cleveland from 1893 to 1897. As he delivered remarks to an audience that included President Bowman, Provost Presley, and McLean County Museum of History Executive Director Greg Koos, Stevenson presented to ISU a Stevenson family Bible that had been given to Vice President Stevenson as a wedding gift from his mother. Mike Huhndorf's Prep Camp
Mike Huhndorf, an ISU Biological Sciences doctoral student, has participated in the recent discovery of six new species: a bat, a rodent, two shrews, and two frogs. He was a member of an expedition led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in the Democratic Republic of Congo this past winter. The forest survey was conducted between January and March 2007 and included participants from WCS, the Field Museum in Chicago, the National Centre of Research and Science in Lwiro, and the World Wildlife Fund. Huhndorf is affiliated with the Field Museum. “The most interesting thing about this trip was, obviously, we were able to discover so many new species in such a short time,” said Huhndorf. “Also amazing was the extent of the forest itself. Most forests in the region are only isolated remnants of much larger forests, but this one was largely intact.” Click Read More for more photos.
