Don Knapp '91 Visits with ISU Students
Attorneys, students, and faculty attended the second annual ISU Pre-Law Student Conference on September 7. Designed to provide students with practical information about the practice of law, the conference included sessions focusing on what law schools consider when reviewing applications, the realities of life as a law school student, and specific areas of practice. The conference was followed by a law school fair and a social hour. Members of the Attorneys Advisory Board (AAB) held their fall meeting on campus on Saturday morning, followed by a golf outing organized to provide an opportunity for students to socialize with attorneys. A third conference to be held in the fall of 2008 is planned. “I enjoy being asked to speak at the Pre-Law Conference,” said Don Knapp, AAB Executive Board Member. “It is nice to see the enthusiasm the students have at this stage in their studies.” Click Read More for More Photos

Volunteers Take Pledges
Award-winning radio station WGLT is recruiting volunteers to assist with the GLT Fall Fund Drive. The Drive will be October 12-19, and GLT is searching for people to come to the GLT studios in Old Union and answer pledge phones. “Activity begins at 6 a.m. and continues until midnight,” said Pat Peterson, GLT Membership Director, “So there is certain to be a shift that works into people’s busy lives.” She added that all a volunteer needs is a smiling voice, decent handwriting, and the ability to put up with a slightly frazzled GLT staff, although good coffee-making skills are a plus. Many volunteers work two-hour shifts, but any amount of time is appreciated. For more information, call Pat Peterson at 309.438.3581, email her at pkpeter@ilstu.edu, or visit www.wglt.org/volunteer.

Saving Maria
George E. Tuttle, Professor Emeritus of Communication, has published his third novel, Saving Maria. The mystery novel interweaves the stories of Maria, a young girl who lies in a coma; and Aaron Worthington and Jeff Spencer, substantial investors in a world-wide wind energy and organic food empire known as SPENWORTH. The story takes place in England, Newfoundland, Australia, and several locations in the United States. “The issues of wind energy and organic food are timely economic and political issues,” said Tuttle. “Saving the young Maria is a timeless issue.” Tuttle is the author of two previous mystery novels, Murder in the Opera House and Death in the Vineyard.
