This spring eleven faculty and staff members in the College have announced their retirements: Larry Alferink, Professor of Psychology; Roger Anderson, Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences; Mary Campbell, Associate Professor of Social Work, Craig Cutbirth, Associate Professor of Communication; Ron Fortune, Professor of English; Douglas Jennings, Assistant Chair, School of Communication; Julie Ruby, Administrative Aide, Department of History; Mark Siderits, Professor of Philosophy, Richard Stivers, Distinguished Professor of Sociology; Diane Urey, Distinguished Professor of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; and Carl Wenning, Physics Teacher Education Advisor. A number of the retirees expressed their willingness to continue to devote their energy and expertise to ISU. “I’m retiring not so I can do less, but so I can do more,” said Wenning. “I’m working at making ISU a national center for the preparation of physics teacher educators.” Urey added, “I’ve had many wonderful students during my years of teaching, and I will certainly miss working with them.” In reflecting on his tenure at ISU, Alferink said, “When the door of opportunity opens, walk in!”
