College Graduates Over 1300

School of Communication Director Larry Long and Amelia Gould
Over 1300 students in the College of Arts and Sciences received degrees on Friday, May 8 during the University’s 150th annual commencement. The College conferred 1,080 baccalaureate and 256 graduate degrees. President Bowman and college faculty and staff were joined by University dignitaries, including Chair of the Board of Trustees Judge Michael McCuskey, in congratulating the Illinois State University class of 2009. Amelia Gold, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in biological sciences and communication studies and a minor in chemistry, delivered the student address.

“Each of us has been given countless opportunities to prove ourselves, define our lives, and change the lives of others. That is what Illinois State is all about,” Gould noted. “That is what it gives, tirelessly, to the thousands of students that cross the very same stage we are about to cross.” Gould was the 2007 Laurine Reiske Scholarship recipient and was also a 2008-2009 Robert G. Bone Scholar. Next year she will attend graduate school at Illinois State University to study biology. Her goal is to become a veterinarian.
