Stevenson Center Celebrates 15th Anniversary

Rod Custer, Beverly Beyer, Robert Hunt, and Frank Beck

The Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development celebrated its 15th anniversary with a series of events on May 28 and 29. Amy Lawless, professional organizer with the Industrial Areas Foundation, was the guest speaker. The work of local community agencies was highlighted, and the Central Illinois Organizing Project was awarded the first Stevenson Center Community Transformation Award. The evening of the 28th was devoted to honoring founder Dr. Robert W. Hunt, Emeritus Professor of Politics and Government. Hunt was presented with a scrapbook full of pictures, quotes, and memorabilia submitted by friends and former colleagues.

Friday’s activity focused on a student workshop. There were panel discussions with alumni, returned Peace Corps Volunteers, students completing their domestic professional placements, and current students. Frank Beck, Director, was pleased with the chance to honor Dr. Hunt, advance community development efforts in McLean County, and work with some phenomenal students.
